Hi! Great to see you here!

Thank you for watching my Save Your Photos Month 2022 presentation How to Capture Dialogue and Expression with your Phone.

Below you will find the most important points from the presentation and additional resources. If you are interested, I also encourage you to visit my online store with photo collages & mosaics.

No one is better equipped to tell YOUR OWN STORY than YOU

As covered in the presentation, I believe storytelling & memory keeping are essential to improve the quality of our lives.

How to tell stories related to your photo collection?

  1. Capture
  2. Edit
  3. Use
  4. Share

But first, remember about an important mindset shift.

The story you want to tell is important. So it’s better to tell the story imperfectly than not tell it at all.

Before we go further, if you like the way I talk & write about photos, you can sign up for my newsletter. I am painfully aware how busy we all are – so you would be receiving emails from me ONLY once a month or when something important happens. When you sign up, you will receive a present from me – 20 prompts you can use to start storytelling today.

STEP 1: CAPTURE YOUR STORIES

WHAT COULD YOU CAPTURE?

  • quotes
  • inside jokes
  • first words
  • event description
  • feelings
  • comparisons

HOW TO CAPTURE STORIES?

  • timeline
  • journal
  • simple description
  • letter
  • travel log
  • interview

Also – think about the two perspectives:

  • What do I want to describe now?
  • What would I want to read in 30 years?

CAPTURING STORIES WITH YOUR PHONE

In my presentation, I showed you how to capture stories in 4 apps. Below you will find links to videos with short instructions on how to use them.

DayOne application (free+paid)

Google Keep / Apple Notes (free)

Built-in voice recorder (free)

Microsoft Word application (paid)

Step 2: EDIT YOUR STORIES

Since I practice what I preach, I spend little time on spellchecking and editing my stories for albums and memory keeping. I mostly recommend using built-in spellchecks in phones and/or computers. It’s far more important to use the story, rather than spend to much time on edits.

Step 3: USE YOUR STORIES

No it’s time to include your stories in photobooks, albums, slideshows. I also wholeheartedly recommend making topical albums e.g. my favourite places, day in my life, family alphabet etc.

Step 4: SHARE YOUR STORIES

  • Let others read the stories you want them to read
  • Prepare albums/photobooks/slideshows for others
  • Send your stories into the world
